I Shaved My Head

09/20/2026

Halloah! It's been a busy month for me. I'm currently unemployed, so I do find myself with a good amount of time on my hands that I wouldn't otherwise have. I've been spending a lot of time with my friends and going out and whatever, so I neglected this site a bit. If I leave for months at a time, please know that I'll always be back! This is a long term project, and I have a lot on my plate, so pages will be added slowly but (hopefully) surely!

The music selection today is 6 by Porch Light. They just released their first album, and I'll be seeing them live on 9/23! If you like Paramore, you would love them.

Okay, so...I've been growing out my hair for about two years, and it was this length about two weeks ago:

And here's what it looks like now:

I always got a lot of compliments when I had my long hair. People would specifically say that it looked healthy, which I always found funny...healthy?? But over time, I realized that it really is uncustomary for long hair to just be naturally healthy and luscious like mine (I swear I'm not full of myself). I never did anything special to my hair, which maddened people when I would inform them. I would literally wake up with it like that. Also, the photo of me with long hair isn't the world's best photo of it, but it is a more recent photo so whatever.

As time went on and I grew accustomed to having longer-than-"normal" hair for a boy, I realized that it wasn't really the look that I wanted for myself. Don't get me wrong, I loved how I looked with it, but I wanted to try something a little bit more masculine, I guess. Long live the patriarchy or whatever (this is a joke, please let us overthrow it). Also, sometimes I would dream about what it would be like to not have the burden of long hair. I enjoy figure skating as a hobby, and any time I forgot my hair tie I literally thought that I was going to die due to having no peripheral vision. I have no idea how people skate with their hair down...

I hadn't told anyone that I was doing this except for a few friends. I went in to the salon on Labor day and this woman named Lisa cut my hair. She didn't even bother going in with scissors or anything first, she just used clippers right off the bat. I remember almost crying when I saw the first locks of my hair fall to the ground. I refused to look in the mirror during the process because I new I would probably look like Monstro Elisasue from The Substance.

Lisa thought that it would be funny if I took a picture of the massive pile of hair on the ground and sent it to my family as my way of telling them that I shaved my head, which was a wonderful idea. Thank you, Lisa. I made sure to tip her well. On the walk home, I remember feeling the breeze on my neck for the first time in a year and running my fingers through my fuzzy hair. That's probably my favorite part of this haircut -- it's like a portable fidget toy.

I really do like my new hair. I think it lets my face speak for itself, but I also do like how I looked with my long hair. I feel proud of myself for being able to pull off both looks. Pat on the back, Karim. You probably can't tell how I really look with my hair since that photo is a selfie from one angle, maybe next time I'll put a full 360.
